Rockshox deluxe r debonair

Compare to other Rear Shocks. Need more info? I have been using the RockShox Deluxe RT for a little bit over year and have a fair understanding on how the shock rides. In my opinion this is one of the best shocks that money can buy. The damper is really nice offering enough support without being to harsh, and big plus in my opinion. The shock is also very supple which surprised me.

I expected it to have somewhat ok sensitivity as it isn't the most expensive option on the market, but this shock is on par with the best of the best. Another plus, is the rebound adjustment, each click does enough to slightly notice a change in damping without doing to much.

This way you can dial in your rebound for the perfect ride. The last pro could also be a con depending on the suspension kinematics of the bike or your preference. If you prefer ground huggy linear suspension that tracks the terrain even while deeper in the stroke, this is the shock for you.

This shock is very linear, even with max volume reducers fitted. If your bike's suspension is linear you will find the shock staying too deep in its travel which could cause harsh bottom outs of huck to flats or big compressions. While my experience with the shock has been pretty positives there are a couple of Cons I would like to mention. Since this shock doesn't have a piggy back, the lack of extra oil causes the shock to heat up.

This isn't very noticeable as the shock handles the heat well, but in some instances, you might find the damping to be a little off at the end of a long downhill run especially if the trail is rough.

While linear feeling suspension might be a pro to some, it is a con to others. Depending on your riding style and rear linkage this could be a deciding factor.

How To Tune An Air Shock On Your Mountain Bike – Adjust Your Rear Suspension

Lastly, due to the overall linear feel, the shock doesn't have a lot of pop. It takes more effort to pop and bunny hop as the shock absorbs a lot of the force you input. Although, this creates a ground huggy ride, it is more difficult to jump as it requires more energy to do so. If you're in the market for a new shock for your trail bike and have a limited budget, the RockShox Deluxe RT is a viable option, with good damping, very good sensitivity, and lots of adjustment which could compete with the best, look no further.

Newsletter Signup .There are two upper eyelet options for the new Deluxe and Super Deluxe shocks. The first, shown here on a carbon Transition, incorporates a pair of sealed cartridge bearings. The second uses a standard RockShox changed how riders think about air shocks when they released the DebonAir air can. The coil-like initial stroke, the smooth mid-stroke ramp, and finally the easily tunable end stroke felt superior to any other air shock on the shop floor.

To achieve the initial performance of the DebonAir without the heat of the twin air can setup. The answer is a lattice-like coil negative spring that sits on the body inside a standard air can.

The very smooth off-the-top feel remains in a significantly simpler and literally cooler package. Another new feature of the Super Deluxe is a massive increase in bushing overlap. The shock body is better supported and is supported closer to its mid point. I know lots of riders who are very happy with their properly lubed, Monarch Plus shocks with DebonAir cans.

I also know a few who have had recurring issues with air leaks. This tendency is worse for some suspension designs than others and will also depend on the alignment of a specific frame. The solution is a massive increase in bushing overlap so that the shock body is supported better and closer to its mid point. This should significantly reduce premature seal wear. Another big difference between the Monarch Plus rear and Super Deluxe front is the size of the damper shaft and the corresponding fluid displacement.

Both are significantly larger on the new Super Deluxe. My favourite feature of the Super Deluxe is the rebound adjuster. Because it does something special? Nope, turn the knob for more or less rebound damping. I like the fit and finish of the big circlet of damping control.

Easy to access on any suspension design and to adjust with gloves. Jeff likes to pull his off for a re-grease at the same time as he does a basic air can service. Grease keeps water out and helps keep the detentes feeling notable and consistent. The Deluxe and Super Deluxe have a huge range of air volume adjustment. These shocks cover the entire volume range of all the Monarch and Monarch Plus options whilst only requiring the installation or removal of inexpensive spacers.

RockShox Deluxe RT3 Rear Shock: 165 x 42.5 Trunnion, DebonAir, Fits Giant Anthem

No new air cans, eyelets, or other expensive parts. At the opposite end of the spectrum is a Super Deluxe shock with the maximum number of tokens. This is a volume match for a Solo Air Monarch shock. From a more structural standpoint, opening up trunnion mount options help many frame designers build more integral bikes with increased rear end stiffness. Lastly, the new shocks see increased bushing overlap for better durability and decreased friction.

One of the most glaring features on the new Super Deluxe is the massive rebound knob. Aside from that, the 3 position compression lever is relatively unchanged and still provides full open, trail and full lock modes with a flick of the lever.

Another cool detail is the laser etched marking for full travel, as indicated by the 50mm line above. Having a clear reference point helped de-mystify whether or not we reached full travel.

The guts…well part of them anyway. All you need is a shock pump and a strap wrench. Just from bouncing around in the parking lot, the remarkably low breakaway force stood out immediately. You could practically sneeze on the saddle and we swear the shock would compress. We have to admit that some of this is due to the finely tuned kinematics of our Evil Calling, but it takes two to tango and this shock is very well thought out.

With most rear shocks we often set and forget the rebound, but enjoyed dabbling a bit more than usual. The full lock mode is very, very firm — something we appreciated on long fire road or paved road climbs.

In terms of bottom out support, we bounced between using 1 and 2 volume reducers. Plowing through small to mid sized hits was a treat. With this rear shock, our bike felt glued to the ground, however it was still lively, poppy and supportive.

We feel that riders from pounds could likely find an appropriate range in tuning by using anywhere from reducers, thus keeping things rather simple — at least on our frame anyway.

After 6 months of heavy hammering and zero service, this is what the air can looked like despite being ridden in mud and dust then hit with the hose repeatedly. Just a couple of years ago, as riders began to really push mid travel bikes, they looked to DH style air shocks to help their bikes better manage the added abuse. In our opinion, with the Super Deluxe being available, there is no reason whatsoever to go that route.
