On my Unemployment App I think I stated a disagreement with new management over my time-card. What happened was, HR called me into their office and told me the hours I claimed on my time-card were inaccurate and that the overtime I was taking was not authorized by my new manager.
After giving them my reasons for my time-card they said they would review the evidence and get back to me. Could you please give me advise as to what to say on the phone interview. I was thinking of just saying they told me I didn't have permission to work overtime. And what do you think my chances are here of receiving unemployment. What do you think? Thank you so much! What did you say on your application for UI? That is what you need to live with. Don't say anymore or elaborate. A truly noncontesting employer will not respond to the UI inquiry or will simply say "discharged" and give no reason. What you don't want to do is say anything that will disqualify yourself. Having read your story, a disagreement about a time card could mean you were asking about a shortage in your check.

A few days later I got a phone call saying they wont be doing the interview and they dont need anymore info from me. After that I got approved! Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it! More than likely they had an administrative question that they cleared up in the 11th hour - you're OK -the fact that they left a message is a good sign.
I just checked and saw no messages in my inbox. It's weird. But I am hoping everything is gravy.

Regardless, just the fact that they left you a phone message is a good sign - don't stress it. All is well, roof over our heads, food in the fridge, and our two feral cats that have adopted us are in good health. The vm that was left for me was from an automated system. There are a couple of good reasons for keeping your answers short. First, your interviewer's time on the call is limited; if you ramble on you are making it tough for her to keep on schedule, which is irritating. Obviously, you do not want to irritate someone who may be deciding your benefit eligibility.
Second, when you begin elaborating on your answers, you are "opening the door," — an informal legal term meaning once you have put any new information out there, your EDD interviewer has a right to follow it up. Sometimes this new information may work in your favor. More often, it won't have any effect at all and may make you appear defensive.
This could lead the interviewer to conclude based on the new information that you are ineligible. Be polite. This seems obvious, but anyone who has ever spent time in a state unemployment office knows that clients are often loud, angry and rude.
Remember that your interviewer does this about hours a week.Make a list of key words that help explain your case, and say them during the interview. Check them off your list as you use them. The interviewer heard you the first time. This is an excellent way to find out what the issues are in your case and be prepared to respond to them.
How to Pass the Unemployment Insurance Interview
If there is any way you can make their job easier during the interview, they will look more favorably on you. Be completely available during that time frame. If possible, be in a quiet space where you will not be interrupted. This may mean making arrangements for childcare. Make sure your cell phone battery is charged. Put your telephone ringer on a volume that you will hear. Have your notes ready and in front of you.

Unfortunately, I have heard frustration expressed from more than one client that the EDD interviewer did not listen to what they said, or did not seem to understand what they were saying, particularly where the issue was a little unusual or complex.
If that happens to you, you may want to follow up the interview with an email to the EDD. Or provide a clearer explanation of your situation if you felt the interviewer did not understand your issue. At the end of the interview, ask the interviewer what the next step is, and if there is any further information you need to provide to them.
